Joseph Gordon-Levitt earned the cape and cowl at the end of “The Dark Knight Rises,” but that doesn’t mean he’ll continue to wear them.
The actor spoke with MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival — where he was promoting his directorial debut, “Don Jon’s Addiction” — about the numerous rumors that he’ll be playing Batman in future DC Entertainment projects including “Justice League” and a rumored cameo in the upcoming Superman reboot, “Man of Steel.”
“I hadn’t heard that one,” Gordon-Levitt laughed when MTV’s Josh Horowitz asked him about the “Man of Steel” rumor. “It just goes to show how much you can believe rumors.”
In fact, Gordon-Levitt advises fans to be skeptical of any rumor that comes with his name attached — including all of the recent Batman and “Guardians of the Galaxy” reports — until he says otherwise.
“I don’t think you should believe in any of them,” he said. “If there’s something I’m going to be in, I’m going to tell you about it.”
One geek-friendly project that Gordon-Levitt is definitely involved in is “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.” He’ll play a character named Johnny, a cocky gambler who picks a fight with the wrong guy in a brand new story unique to the “Sin City” sequel.
“‘Sin City 2’ is going to be fun,” the actor grinned. “[I’m playing] a quintessential Rodriguez badass. It’s going to be fun as hell.”
Beyond starring in the film, Gordon-Levitt sees an added benefit in joining the “Sin City” team. “I’ve made a lot of short films with hitRECOrd on green screen,” he said, “and in my opinion, ‘Sin City’ is probably the best movie that’s been made with that methodology. So I’m very eager to see how [Rodriguez] does it.”
