Zooey Deschanel Exits CAA for UTA
Zooey Deschanel has left CAA for UTA, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.
The actress and musician stars on Fox’s New Girl, although her titular character will be absent for four episodes when the comedy returns for its fifth season, as Deschanel is pregnant. She will, however, appear in theaters this fall in Barry Levinson’s Rock the Kasbah, which stars Bill Murray as a washed-up music manager who shepherds a young singer through an Afghan reality singing competition.
Before her Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated turn in New Girl, Deschanel was already known as an indie film darling, starring in pictures including (500) Days of Summer, All the Real Girls and The Good Girl. Her other movie credits include Almost Famous, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Yes Man and Elf, one of the many films in which she employed the pipes she showcases as one-half of the indie duo She & Him, which released its fifth studio album last December. Deschanel is also co-founder of the female-friendly website and production company HelloGiggles.
Deschanel was actually at UTA for a brief stint in 2013 before returning to CAA, her agency for most of the past decade. UTA, of course, has become the new home for a dozen CAA agents and countless clients — including Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell and Sarah Silverman — over the last couple of months.
She continues to be represented by attorney Steve Warren at Hansen Jacobson.
